Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre is open 7 days a week, and employees may be required to work days, weekends, evenings and statutory holidays to meet operational requirements.

West Shore Parks & Recreation Society (WSPRS) is pleased to offer a comprehensive benefit package for Regular Full-time and Part-time employees, and 12% in lieu of benefits coverage for Auxiliary employees. All employees are offered a complimentary pass to our facility for drop-in use of the Weight Room, Pool, Skating rink and some drop-in fitness classes. Limited use of the Golf Course is also included with the facility pass.

Aquatic Workers


POSITION:  Aquatic Workers
SALARY:     $15.26-$16.24 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
HOURS:       Varied
STATUS:      Auxiliary

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Aquatic Coordinator, we are currently seeking Aquatic Workers who are available during daytime hours. The Aquatic Worker is responsible for delivering aquatic programs and services at Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre. The Aquatic Worker ensures that patrons are using the facility and equipment in a safe manner, while maintaining a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Hours are required to meet operational requirements, including days, evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current NLS Pool Option with CPR C and current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
  • Water Fit Instructor certification and another relevant instructor certification are highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in public relations and in dealing with difficult situations in a positive, courteous and effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory skills would be an asset.

This position requires a clear criminal record check.

Waterfit Intructors


POSITION:  Waterfit Instructors
SALARY:     $18.23 per hour plus 12% in lieu of benefits.
HOURS:       Varied
STATUS:      Auxiliary

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Aquatic Coordinator, the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre is currently looking for energetic, enthusiastic Water fit Instructors to provide a high quality water fit program to our adult participants. Instructors are responsible for organizing a variety of fun and creative water fit programs, while ensuring the safety of participants at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current recognized water fit instructor certification
  • Standard First aid and CPR C are required.
  • Other aquatic certifications (WSI and NLS) are highly desirable.
  • Experience in providing instruction, guidance and encouragement as well as the ability to foster an environment, which encourages participation.
  • Demonstrated lesson planning ability.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow established safety standards and requirements.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.

This position requires a clear criminal record check.
